Snow & Ice - A Hitsugaya Tale (Chapter 3)

In this chapter Alice finally releases her zanpaktou and we get to see a hint of something develop with Hitsugaya.

Toshiro: Toshiro watched as Alice was beat down more then once. Her fighting spirit seemed to have vanished. She was strong going in but all the sudden she was weak. "Is the girl really a Captain level Soul Reaper?" Matsumoto said what he was sure they were all thinking. "Captain Hirataka do you need help?" Matsumoto asked. All the question seemed to do was aggravate and distract Alice. She was beat down this time a large gash appeared on her shoulder. She cried out. Toshiro couldn’t keep watching much longer. He flashed over to her. “Hirataka," he said into her ear "Focus." She breathed in deeply. "Release." Was all he said before flashing back to Matsumoto and Hisagi.

Alice
: "Freeze, Aoi Yuki" Alice released her zanpaktou. In shikai the long katana changed to a crystal blade. The once white sheath is now a crystal blue and is circling the blade in an almost ribbon like form. Now more confident, Alice moves swiftly to the menos and cuts it down. Its flakes and breaks into blue snow covering the ground below and finally disappearing. Alice breathed out heavily. She had done it. Her first major kill was satisfying and scary all at the same time. Forgetting she was injured she spit out a bit of blood. "Captain!" Hisagi rushed to her side to keep her from falling over. "Captain, are you all right?" She coughed a little bit and held onto her side. "I’m fine Hisagi, let’s go"

Toshiro: Toshiro thought about what he had seen on the way back to the soul society. He had seen many zanpaktou that were Snow & Ice oriented. But something about Hirataka's was different. The power level held such great potential. She was probably a lot stronger then she had thought. When they returned home Toshiro buried himself in paper work. It was hard to focus when all he could think about was her power. She was stronger then most. Usually that kind of power could only be attained through years of training. She was a little older then him, she was another genius.

Alice
: Hisagi took her to the 4th squad barracks to be treated and left to let the squad know they had returned. She was treated and went back to her barracks. Alice began to write the report on what had happened in the world of the living. She heard a knock on the door. "Captain, may I come in?" Alice recognized Hisagi's voice."Yeah"

"Captain, I have been asked to fill you in on training advice for our upcoming battle."
"The one with Aizen?"
"Yes, we need to make sure we are ready, and we need to train the squad to fight to protect the soul society."
"I understand Hisagi, ill work on that later."
Hisagi went to leave but stopped short of the exit. "Yes Hisagi?"
"Captain, will you be fighting with us?"
Alice chocked on her tea "Of course I am, I'm a Captain of the 13 court guard squads, why wouldn’t I?'
"Just checking ma'm"
Hisagi left and things were quite again.
Alice fell asleep on her desk. In her dream, she remembered what Toshiro had done for her. She woke up fast, and felt flustered. Why did she dream of him? "You ok?" A voice said from the distance. Alice jumped! "Who is that?"
Hitsugaya walked out from the shadows.

Toshiro: He didn’t really know why he came. For some reason he just felt compelled to come. So he did. It was that simple. "You zanpaktou is amazing" he said.

"Well it’s not really that good, I only recently learned bankai and so it’s still weak." She laughed a bit. She was red. He wondered what she had been dreaming about that made her blush. "I am sorry" he said it more to the ground then to her. "What?" she asked. "I’m sorry, I didn’t mean what I said, back when we first met. That’s all." Toshiro turned away quickly and went for the door. "Toshiro wait!" He stopped dead. "My name is Captain Hitsugaya!"

"Thank you." She replied, he turned back around to face her. "You should get some sleep," he said "you’re bleeding again" he left quickly and exhaled when he was finally out of the room. His heart was beating fast.
